All-Or-Nothing Mindset

March 09, 20232 min read

Hey, ladies! Have you ever found yourself in a cycle of restriction, guilt, and overindulgence when it comes to food and exercise?

You're not alone! This type of thinking is called all-or-nothing thinking and it's something that many women deal with. It can be SO frustrating, and leave you feeling like a failure. But I am here to tell you that you absolutely ARE NOT A FAILURE! That's right! Read that again if you need to!

First off, let's talk about food. You know how it goes, you have a slice of cake at a friend's birthday party and suddenly you think "well, I already messed up, might as well just eat the whole cake." Sound familiar?

Or maybe you're so strict with yourself that you won't even let yourself have a slice of cake because it's "not on your diet." Girl, we've all been there. But here's the thing, life is all about balance and moderation. Eating one slice of cake doesn't make you a failure, and depriving yourself of the things you love will only lead to feelings of guilt and shame, not to mention possibly increasing your cravings and desires for those things in the long run!

And what about exercise? We've all had those days where we didn't make it to the gym and we think "well, I already missed a workout, might as well skip the rest of the week." But here's the thing, exercise doesn't have to be all or nothing. Just because you missed a gym session doesn't mean you can't fit in some physical activity in another way.

And don't even get me started on the mentality of "I'm not a runner, I can't run a marathon." You never know what you're capable of until you try. Want a pro tip? Believing it's possible is the starting place for making that become your reality-and that goes both ways! So, are you going to tell yourself that you can't or you can?

So, what's the solution? It's simple, really. Instead of thinking in all-or-nothing terms, try to focus on progress, not perfection. Making small and sustainable changes in your eating and exercise habits can lead to big results over time. Of course, this is easier said than done, but it really can make a big difference.

Aim to improve just 1% each day. 1% is reasonable, right? And at the end of year, that's 365% progress!!

And remember, life is not black and white, so don't be so hard on yourself. Let's break free from this all-or-nothing mindset and get back to enjoying our lives!
